How to Get a Driving Licence - Category A1
If you've been to a driving school you can drive motorcycles with 125 ccm engines and 11 kW of power with an A1 license. You can also drive trikes and other motor vehicles that have three-drive.
You can obtain an A1 license at the age of 16. You will need to take an exam in theory and a practical test.
What is my driving skill?
A category A1 license allows you to ride two or three-wheeled motorbikes. These are vehicles that have engines of up to 125cc and a power output of up to 11 kW. This license can also be used to operate a motor tricycle in the event that it has an output of 15 kW. This licence also permits you to drive a moped towing trailer.
If you wish to ride a more powerful motorbike, you will need a category AM licence instead. This permits mopeds with a capacity of 125cc with the power output of 35kW.
Drivers who hold a category C license (which they can get after passing the CPC four-part test) are allowed to drive large vehicles up to a maximum mass of 3,500kg. This vehicle is heavier than other vehicles and will require you to be able haul a lot.
This category is more permissive than Category C. You can tow trailers up to 750kg with this license. This is a great opportunity to gain experience driving larger vehicles before taking the full test in category C which is required to drive HGVs.
Anyone who has been driving smaller categories A or A1 will discover that it is easier to pass a test for category A2, which allows the use of motorbikes that have up to 35kW.
